Dr Leonardo Chiariglione

Dr Leonardo Chiariglione is CEO of CEDEO.net, a company advising a number of multinational companies in the area of digital media. Leonardo’s latest initiative is the Digital Media Project.

Leonardo is the recipient of several awards, including the Eduard Rhein Foundation Award, the IBC John Tucker Award, the IEEE Masaru Ibuka Consumer Electronics Award and the Kilby Foundation Award.

Leonardo obtained his PhD degree from the University of Tokyo in 1973. During his career Leonardo has launched several significant initiatives, including MPEG in 1988, DAVIC in 1994 and FIPA in 1996.

Stephen Lowe

Chairman of the Broadband Communications Research Consortium and the Broadband Wireless Association, Stephen is an active member in a number of pivotal communications groups including the Electronic Communications Recovery and Resilience Group, Lancaster University's Broadband Communications Research Consortium project and as chairman of the Broadband Wireless Association. Stephen works with the Digital Communications Knowledge Transfer Network; a group sponsored by the Technical Strategy Board.

Stephen began his career at Mullard Research Laboratories where he worked on the masers for the Telstar trans-Atlantic television satellite and moving to the BBC in 1968, in the videotape section of Engineering Designs. In 1977 Stephen joined Television News where he helped to develop the Electronic News Gathering systems and high speed film processing equipment. 

Stephen then went onto become a Worldwide Training Manager for Ampex Corporation, providing technical and operator training on their range of broadcast and military equipments. Next for Stephen came his time as Project Director for the construction of Eurobell, now known as Virgin Media. During his time as Product Development Director for Eurobell, Stephen led teams in a number of European wireless broadband projects including the construction of a 40GHz broadband and television system in Moscow.

Gerard Faria

Gerard is Executive Director and co-founder of TeamCast in Rennes, France. Gerard co-founded TeamCast in 2003 as a company whose aim is ‘to be the preferred partner of the Digital Broadcast actors.’ Gerard is currently involved in numerous European Collaborative Research projects dealing with Digital Broadcast and Mobile TV.

A prolific member of the DVB forum, Gerard has participated extensively in DVB Technical works: in 2004 he wrote the DVB-H Physical Layer specifications ETSI EN 300 744 v1.5.1 (2004-11) and in 2005 Gerard co-ordinated the DVB-H Validation Task Force work and produced its report ETSI TR 102 401 v1.1.1 (2005-06).

Since 2007, Gerard has co-ordinated a large Eureka/CELTIC project “B21C” which involves 35 partners from six European countries, working in liaison with DVB on “Broadcast for the 21st Century” embracing DVB-H / DVB-SH and DVB-T2.0.

A graduate of the Technical University of Paris VI, France, Gerard co-founded the ITIS Company, where he managed the R&D engineers, conceived most of the company’s DAB and DVB products and participated in major European Collaborative Research projects working on Digital Radio and Digital TV broadcasting systems: VALIDATE, MOTIVATE, iTTi, Witness, MCP and IM4DTTV.
