Introduction to Systems Engineering

Courses are provided in collaboration with Brass Bullet Ltd.

About the course

This three day course introduces the main concepts of systems engineering. It covers concepts, systems, life cycles, modelling, processes and standards, in line with the INCOSE Systems Engineering Handbook. It also includes a practical workshop applying theory to the development of a real system undertaken in the framework of a systems engineering process based on ISO 15288 methods of validation.

Key benefits

By attending this course you will:

  • Gain an understanding of the concepts of systems engineering, including systems, life-cycles, processes and standards (including ISO 15288);
  • Obtain an introduction to the concepts of systems engineering modelling, using the new Systems Modelling Language - SysML;
  • Consolidate your knowledge by learning to analyse, design and build a system.

Who should attend?

  • Engineers starting out in a career in systems engineering;
  • Experienced systems engineers who wish to continue their professional development through an understanding of the latest systems engineering concepts and approaches;
  • Managers responsible for systems engineering projects who wish to gain an understanding of the processes and standards involved.

The course material includes the book SysML for Systems Engineering written by course tutors Jon Holt and Simon Perry and published by the IET. This book provides a pragmatic introduction to systems engineering modelling language, SysML, aimed at systems engineering practitioners at any level of ability, ranging from students to experts. The theoretical aspects and syntax of SysML are covered and each concept is explained through a number of example applications. he book also discusses the history of SysML and show how it has evolved over a number of years. All aspects of language are covered and are discussed in an independent and frank manner, based on practical experience of applying SysML in the real world.
