The process for academic accreditation

An overview of how programme accreditation is carried out:

A panel of trained IET experts visit a department to examine a wide range of issues including programme content, delivery and resources to ensure that the requirements have been met. Accreditation is awarded to individual programmes leading towards either Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer registration.

Universities/Colleges are required to demonstrate that they meet the criteria set by the IET, which based on UK-SPEC. The IET endeavours to operate a transparent process, and the IET accreditation staff are available to give advice at any stage of the process.

In order to demonstrate that the programme is suitable for accreditation the IET has developed accreditation forms which will need to be completed prior to the accreditation visit, and we have produced guidance to help you complete our documentation.
